The RSVP Home Vistior service is a unique volunteer opportunity for individuals age 55 and over. It is offered through the Retired Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP) of the Northern Shenandoah Valley and sponsored by People Incorporate of Virginia.
RSVP Home Visitor Volunteers provide friendship and support to homebound seniors age 65 or older and to adults with disabilities who are often isolated and lonely. Through regular weekly visits and other contacts, RSVP Home Visitors provide social interaction, mental stimulation and emotional support. The goal is to help homebound individuals maintain a sense of independence, self-worth and increased social contact.
RSVP Home Visitors enhance the quality of life of homeboud individuals by listening, caring and being friendly companion. Volunteer activities may include letter-writing, reading to visually impaired, playing cards or board games, sharing good conversation and common interest, sharing a light meal, helping with errands, appointments or light chores, providing telephone contact, and other activities that friends enjoy doing together.
