2022 Our Health Annual Meeting Recognition of Service
December 12, 2022
Our Health is a non-profit community resource, which supports health and human services agencies in the Northern Shenandoah Valley. Incorporated in 1999, an idea became a reality when a collaborative location opened for several area agencies in downtown Winchester – the Our Health Kendall Community Campus. In addition, Our Health partners with 90 agencies throughout the Northern Shenandoah Valley to improve community health and well-being. It provides an array of services to these agencies, including training and technical assistance, grant writing, administrative support and the recruitment and placement of volunteers.
On Monday, December 12th beginning at 11:30am, Our Health will have a ribbon-cutting ceremony in its John Borg Memorial Garden. John was a founding member of Our Health and was instrumental in making Our Health the organization it is today. He was an active board member up to his death in 2021. This garden and mural is being dedicated in his memory. In addition, the Our Health Board will recognize and honor the 7-year partnership it has had with the Mexican Consulate and specifically with their local liaison Victor Hugo Ramirez. This partnership has allowed Our Health to more fully serve the Hispanic community through health and wellness fairs and documentation support. Finally our board will be recognizing the dedicated service of long-term Board Chair Don Butler who will step down from his Chairmanship role following 8 years of service; Board Member Mark Merrill following 8 years of service; and, Board Member Liz Savage following 3 years of service.
The Our Health model is a unique and successful one. Dr. Robert Kendall, Chair Emeritus of Our Health said “dignity and compassion” are the cornerstones of the Our Health concept. “Dignity for all of those who come through our doors looking for the help that will allow them to lead more productive lives. Compassion on behalf of those who will provide that help, and compassion from a community that has made it a mission to see that no one is left behind or consigned to failure by conditions that can, and will, be remedied by the resources this organization embodies.”
