In 1996, the Valley Health System (VHS) initiated a community-needs assessment aimed at enhancing the services offered to our community. Upon reviewing the findings, it became clear that establishing a community nonprofit campus would be the most effective way to improve both physical and mental health services that meet the diverse needs of our population.

With this vision, the name Our Health was adopted to embody our mission.

Founded in 1999 as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, Our Health set out to create a centralized campus where local agencies could co-locate and operate from a single location. This innovative strategy was designed to reduce service duplication and enhance service delivery. Our efforts were supported not only by VHS but also by the City of Winchester and the surrounding counties of Frederick, Clarke, Shenandoah, and Warren. Together, we addressed the fragmented service landscape, transforming inefficiency into innovation.

Before the establishment of the Our Health campus, accessing basic services was a significant challenge for many individuals. Long wait times and transportation difficulties plagued those seeking help from scattered agencies, many of which operated from temporary or inadequate spaces. Our Health revolutionized this process by bringing multiple services under one roof, effectively eliminating transportation barriers and ensuring that assistance is readily available when it is needed most.

Today, Our Health has centralized nearly every essential service in one location. This transformation goes beyond mere convenience; it has become a lifeline for many in the Northern Shenandoah Valley, providing crucial support in times of need.
